What Are Solid Figures?
Solid figures are shapes that aren't flat - they have length, width, and
height!
You can hold them in your hands, stack them, and sometimes even roll them. Let's meet some common solid
figures!
Cube
Sphere
Pyramid
Cylinder
Cone
Cube
A cube has 6 square faces, 12 edges, and 8 corners. It looks like a box!
Example: Dice are cubes!
How to Identify Solid Figures
1️⃣ Look at the shape - Does it have flat sides or is it round?
2️⃣ Count the faces - How many flat surfaces does it have?
3️⃣ Check if it rolls - Some shapes roll, others don't!
Parent Tips 🌟
- Kitchen geometry: Point out solid figures while cooking - cans (cylinders), boxes (cubes), and oranges (spheres) make great examples!
- Building play: Use blocks to create structures and name each shape as you build together.
- Shape walks: Go on a neighborhood walk and look for solid figures in buildings, signs, and nature.
